History

012_12Simpson County Youth Camp had been in operation since the 1950’s at various locations. In August, 1979, the Franklin Church of Christ, along with other supporting churches approved a land sales contract to purchase 147 acres on Booker Road in Holland, Allen County, KY to establish a camping facility. The camp’s full name is “Herman W. Taylor Camp,” and was named for one of Franklin’s former elders. Taylor was very instrumental in creating the interest and importance of camps to young people. The first camping season at Taylor was in 1986. A board was formed, called C.R.E.W. (Christian Recreational Educational Workers). The board is made up of members of supporting congregations.
